It’s almost as if the word polygyny is a curse word to women. When women hear the word, all kinds of emotional reactions start. Polygamy, is a general word for marriage to more than one partner. Polygyny, is the only form of polygamy allowed in Islam. This is the marriage to more than one wife. Although muslim men may have up to four wives, the concept and practice of polygyny is not exclusive to Islam. Did you know that polygyny is practiced in Christianity as well? Soloman, credited as being the wisest man of his time, have 700 wives and 300 concubines. Islam later came and limited the number to four. Most people think the practice of polygyny (more than one wife) is antiquated and has no place in modern society. We have had real life discussions about our thoughts and feeling on this touchy subject on Facebook.
